    How to Participate

    STEP 1

    Find a Spot

Pick a place you can safely visit at night between July 18 and July 26.

    STEP 2

    Turn On a Light

Any light works — a UV/LED bulb attracts even more species.

    STEP 3

    Take Photos

Snap as many moth species as you can with iNaturalist or a camera.

    STEP 4

    Upload by Aug 16

Submit observations to iNaturalist by August 16 to count toward NC Moth Week.

Earn the NC Moth Week Reward

Earn a custom embroidered badge or high-quality glow-in-the-dark vinyl sticker by participating! Two easy steps:

    1. Find and photograph 10 moths of any species in North Carolina July 18 – 26 and upload them to iNaturalist by August 16.
    2. Report your participation by August 16 and claim your reward.
